In 1908, the YMCA in Downtown Edmonton had 13 bedrooms and served single young men, mostly newcomers to the city. Today our four-floor housing facility has more than 100 rooms and still serves young men just getting on their feet. In addition, we also serve women and families and can accomodate up to 120 idividuals at one time.
Some stay only for a night or two while travelling through Edmonton, others may stay a few months while they look for on-going employment and permanent housing. Many of our short-term residents are looking for a place to recover and collect themselves after a crisis situation. The community they find here helps give them the support they need to get their lives back together after a job loss, family break-up or sudden relocation. By collaborating closely with other agencies, community and government services, our Housing Team is committed to enhancing our programs that help people make the transition to a more self-sufficient lifestyle.
Housing Rooms Include:
- Our rooms have a bed and a desk
- All utilities are included
- There are shared bathrooms and showers on each floor
Currently our rates are $52 per day or $165 per week for a private room. A dorm room is $35 per day. There is a $10 key deposit which is returned when you return the key at the end of your stay. There are shared washroom and shower facilities on each floor. The 4th floor is for women only and does not have a dorm. We have common room with a TV on the main floor and also a room with 4 computers for residents use. We are within a block of the rapid transit. Our rooms are rented first come, first served – we do not take reservations. Often the only available bed is in a dorm room. Residents in the dorm rooms have priority when a private room comes available. Please check on availability when you are ready to rent the room.

There is a $10 Key Deposit for all rooms. $30.00 charge for lock change or if key lost or not retruned.
Residents in our Housing Facility have access to our Don Wheaton Family YMCA (located a few blocks away) during specific hours – please ask at the Front Desk for details. Our Don Wheaton Family YMCA includes:
- 25 - metre pool
- indoor running track
- gymnasium
- fully equipped workout centre
