Sunscreen, a hat and water bottle are also necessary. Due to the nature of sunscreen allergies, YMCA staff will not provide or apply sunscreen. It is important that campers understand the importance of sunscreen and know how to apply it before coming to camp.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. My child is turning 6 years old the day after camp ends. Can my child register for any of the 6 - 9 year old camps?
A. No. The YMCA of Edmonton camps follow strict age restrictions. Due to our insurance and our accreditation with the Alberta Camping Association, we are required to follow our age restrictions. Your child must be the minimum age on or before the last day of the camp week..
Q. What can I do if I don't feel that my child is ready for a full week of camp?
A. For children ages 3 and 4 years, our Mighty Munchkins Camp runs for 3 hours a day. You have the option of registering for either the 2-day, 3-day or 5-day.
Q. What is the Alberta Camping Association, and what does it mean to be accredited by them?
A. The Alberta Camping Association is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization that has been working toward the betterment of camping in Alberta since 1949. The ACA helps the general public identify safe and healthy camp settings by awarding ACA accredited camp status to those camps meeting or exceeding the standards set and maintained by the ACA.
Q. Why do I have to send 2 pictures with the medical form?
A. The YMCA of Edmonton requires 2 colour photographs of each child for their medforms. Our medical forms are kept both in the office and with the counselors of your child's camp in case of an emergency. The medical forms and photographs are kept on file for 7 years to comply with our insurance standards.
Q. Do I need to fill out a new medical form every week?
A. No. We only require you to bring in one medical form for the summer. You will need to fill out a separate medical form for any Winter, Spring Break, and Teachers' Convention Camps.
